Fifteen Months

I feel as if SO much has changed since Janie turned one! I cannot decide if time has gone by slowly or quickly. Looking back it feels like forever ago that we were on bottles and formula but at the same time it's like I blinked and she is running around the house.

WEIGHT: 22 pounds, 13 ounces
HEIGHT: 30 1/2 inches

Janie's personality gets bigger and bigger every day. We just got her update from daycare (kind of like a report card) and the comments from her teachers included things like "biggest personality" and "energetic." We are pretty sure we're going to be on our toes with her most all of the time but yet we just love it!

One big thing for Janie over these past few months has been her recurrent ear infections that we decided to take care of just recently. She has been to see doctors 7 times over the last few months!! She now has ear tubes & will hopefully be infection free! I will post separately about our fun with the ENT & surgery later.

Rocking the baby.

MAMA!!

Updates since her first birthday...

Drinks soy formula from a sippy cup four times a day We have put the formula away! The doctor had suggested to just try milk cold turkey... so we did. And had no trouble! We have since been drinking regular cow's milk in a sippy cup. We offer it at her meal times and she drinks water in between. She is also able to drink out of a straw, which she enjoys very much but also makes quite a mess with...

Eats three meals plus snacks of table foods We are pretty much all eating the same things these days. Unless it is something that she cannot chew or is too big for her to eat in case it gets swallowed, she eats it. She has been a really good eater until lately. I'm not sure if it is that she has slowed down on her growth or if it is teething, a tummy bug, or congestion, or if it is just that she is being a picky eater since she is in full toddler-mode, but she is not eating quite as well these days. She will always eat fruit. She will usually eat bread or bread-type foods. But vegetables, meat, and dairy (even cheese - ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?) are totally hit and miss at home. And usually a miss. The good news is that at school, she pretty much eats everything.

Totally different from her sister...
At Nora's 15 month well check she was
reading books in a chair by herself.

My little girl!

Does not eat dairy products After we phased in cow's milk, we tried cheese, and then yogurt and continued to have no trouble so we are officially off the dairy-free diet! Yay! Because she didn't eat it very much as a baby, she also doesn't really care for it now either though. She won't eat macaroni and cheese. It's insane.

Takes 1 nap a day Janie is pretty consistently taking a 1 1/2-2 hour nap each day. On occasion it's longer or shorter, as to be expected, but I wish it were longer. Nora naps longer most days!

She put it on herself!

Eating ice cream at Primrose!

Sucks her thumb & rubs her head This habit is going to be hard to break! And it is totally interfering with ponytails and bow-wearing! {sigh}

Crawls and walks to move around Janie is moving around SO WELL. She is almost running. She marches around our house like she owns it and insists on walking in public places, too. "Wok" she says and tries to wiggle her way down out of my arms. At least she likes to hold my finger while she does so.

Walking through the baby gate towards the stairs!!!

And this even seems like awhile ago...

Bubbles!

Has 6 1/2 teeth Janie has 9 total teeth - top four, bottom four, and one molar on the bottom. She is working on her top two molars and I'm sure the final bottom one will come in soon, but it is going to be constant teething for awhile around here!

Can say a few words, like "up," "hi," and "bye" Despite her mild hearing loss from fluid in her ears, Janie is talking quite a bit. She doesn't prove to be very shy and has an opinion about most things. Today for snack she said "milk" and "banana" and that was that! I'll make a list of words she knows at the bottom of the post!

Waves Janie likes to say "hi" and "bye" to everyone! She waves & blows kisses. She also gives hugs. The other day we were leaving her daycare and she said hug and wiggled her way down and went to give her teacher a hug before we left. She is rambunctious but she is a sweetheart!

Janie playing on the playground at school.

Loves music & dancing Janie dances with her whole body! She shakes and moves her hands in fists around above her head. She claps and says "yay" anytime she hears applause. She also sings "Let it Go" while she holds & rocks the Elsa doll we have. She will shout "Ray!" when you sing "If you're happy and you know it... shout hooray."

Signs "all done" and "more" and "please" Janie now uses words to go with all of these signs and really prefers the word over the sign. She also signs and says "up," "eat," and "milk," among some others.

Playing with the mouse on the playground!

Plays Peek-A-Boo and Chase We still love to play peek-a-boo! And she loves to play chase with Nora's toys whether Nora wants to play or not. That makes for a fun game for Janie but not so much for Nora... Janie likes to do whatever Nora is doing around the house though. She likes to draw and play with the magnets on the fridge, and the window clings. Reading is one of her favorite things to do lately as well. She will bring you a book to read and crawl into your lap to listen to it. Another thing Janie has been doing lately is a little bit of imaginative play. She probably does this because she is mimicking her big sister, but she plays with baby dolls. She gives them hugs and kisses and puts them in the high chair to feed them.

Janie coloring with Nora.

Sitting on the potty like her sister.

Is a great snuggler I love this about Janie. She will still rock before nap & bed times and will even just sit and snuggle throughout the day. I love putting her to bed because I know I will get some quality snuggle time! It's my favorite time of day!

Loves her mommy/Separation Anxiety I think this has gotten better. Janie doesn't have as much separation anxiety as much as she just cries when she doesn't get what she wants. I think the separation anxiety will peak again at 18 months, so next update I may be changing my story again.

Has learned what "no" means Janie can follow some simple commands and actually answers questions. She definitely knows what "no" means but she can also bring you something when you ask for it and answer "yes" or "no" when you ask a question. She says "okay" often when you tell her something or ask her something - probably because Nora uses that word often!

Janie using her favorite word...

Silly baby!

"mama" - Mommy
"dada" - Daddy
"rora" - Nora

For Lunar New Year!!! Her daycare did this... so cute!

At fifteen months, Janie...

Drinks regular milk & water from cups
Eats food at the table with the family
Takes 1 1/2-2 hour nap daily
Sucks her thumb & rubs her head for comfort
Walks everywhere, almost running
Can climb up and down the stairs
Has 9 teeth
Waves, blows kisses, & gives hugs
Uses some words on her own
Still uses some sign language
Loves to read books
Follows her big sister around

Her hair is just long enough to put in pigtails or a pony tail...

BUT she pulls them out!!!

Next time is one and a half! Hopefully some good updates for you then.

Spring is Here

FINALLY!

The weather is warming up and we are headed outside more often to play. That being said, we are all also on allergy medicine. Thanks to the big oak tree in the backyard, I cannot go outside without it.

Loving it outside.

Ready to play in the sun!

Nora's favorite outside activity is playing with her pink car. She likes to get keys and a drink and baby Jo and her sunglasses and just hang out in that car.

Janie's favorite activity is the swing. She loves to be pushed around in it! Both girls really enjoy playing with bubbles and of course, each other.

We even went and visited the fish for the first time since Janie started walking. She really liked it! This summer we will have a blast at the aquarium & I am getting ready for that!!

Summer is almost here... right??

Happy St. Patrick's Day

We enjoyed wearing green and playing outside on St. Patrick's Day! Everyone got green milk for dinner! We are lucky to have these two babies in our lives!

Playing with bubbles...

On a wagon walk...

And these pictures pretty much sum up my children...

Snow Days

I thought we were in the clear for the snow and ice but then... late in February we got hit with a round of sleet & ice. It was a pretty unusual week - we had two days at home and then a late start the next day only to turn around and get more bad weather and leave early from school.

But that wasn't all! We missed another day in MARCH for snow. The second time around we got beautiful white fluffy snow. I was over it by then and just ready for spring break to come.

I took the girls outside to play in the snow & ice for only a short while. Janie loved walking around in it but she already had a bit of a cold (and probably an ear infection) and really didn't need to be out for very long. And although Nora wanted to continue to build snowmen, she didn't actually want to touch the snow. So therefore, I would be building snowmen. And I wasn't really wanting to do that much. So after one, we came inside and had some hot chocolate.

I enjoyed the easy day home with the girls!

Janie in the snow!

Best I could get with them both.

Nora in the snow!

Having fun.

Catching snowflakes!

Trying to get it off of her gloves.

Nora's snowman.

She named him Frosty!

We snuggled on the couch! Everyone had to sit on TOP of mommy...

And Nora chooses to watch movies with her sunglasses on... apparently.

On to warmer weather, please!
