Thoughtful Thursday: New Neighbors

We have some new neighbors next door and I thought it would be a great activity for the girls to help me make some cookies {recipe here} for them and a little card as our Thoughtful Thursday adventure for the week.

After recruiting the girls to help me bake some yummy cookies (that was not hard to do as you can imagine) we gathered the supplies and got to work!

Flour
Granulated
Salt
Vanilla
Two sticks of butter
One egg
Baking powder

We broke out the big mixer and gave it a good dusting off and then got to work. We melted our two sticks of butter and mixed it together for a few minutes with 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar in the mixer. Then, we added our egg and mixed it up a little more. Lastly the dry ingredients - 2 1/4 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt - plus one teaspoon of vanilla.

After the dough was mixed up well, we poured some more sugar into a shallow bowl and rolled about one inch balls of cookie dough in the sugar before placing them on a baking sheet. We did not grease or add parchment paper to our sheets and had no problem, though they are meant to be nonstick pans.

I had to spread the cookies out a bit more as Nora liked to make shapes with them rather than rows & columns... but then we put them in our preheated 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes.

While the cookies were baking, we made a welcome card to go with the sugar cookies. Nora picked out lots of dinosaur stickers and placed them all around. She was proud of her work!

The cookies were ready in no time! Shortly after they were out, I did transfer them to a cooling rack and then we assembled a little plate of cookies to take to our new neighbors! We did have to have our own little taste test to make sure they were as yummy as they looked...

A big fan!

Sweet girls.
