We woke up pretty early since we haven't totally adjusted to the time change yet, got a good breakfast, and headed to get our car for the day! We had fun getting a little bit out of the city to see some more of Washington.
We started by heading to Snoqualmie Falls. We got there a little after 9 and got a decent parking spot before things got busy. We saw the big, beautiful waterfall from the top overlook and after taking it in for a bit we headed down the steep path to the river. It wasn't a super long {mileage} trail but it was pretty steep. We walked down the boardwalk to see the waterfall view from the lower end and also took the path way down all the way to the waters edge. The trip up was quite the climb. I think I mentioned it was steep! Doable, but steep. My calves may be a bit sore tomorrow.
After the climb up we headed toward the Salish Lodge, a hotel right at the top of the falls. We both got exactly the same meal: a locally brewed honey ale and grilled cheese and tomato soup. So good. We had an amazing view while we sat, too!
We headed toward Woodinville after lunch. First stop was the lavender farm. We strolled through the rows of various lavender plants, closed our eyes for a quick snooze, and enjoyed a little lavender vanilla ice cream bar. It tasted exactly how it smelled! I may want more right now...
Our next stop was the Chateau Ste. Michelle winery, also in Woodinville and only a few minutes away. We grabbed a bottle of wine from the cooler and snagged a table to enjoy it at! They have concerts on Saturdays and this week is the Goo Goo Dolls, so we listened to their warm ups as we finished our bottle of Pinot Gris. Lots of people watching and listening happening at this place! Maybe more so because of the concert.
We got all this done a bit earlier than we intended so we decided to hit up the University of Washington campus. We needed some coffee! And wanted to see the Reading Room at the Suzzallo Library. It was a bonus that there was coffee IN the library! It was a beautiful campus and the Reading Room was amazing. It was so incredibly quiet. And let's just say that me dropping my sunglasses was not. You could hear the birds OUTSIDE the building it was so quiet. And so so beautiful! It also reminded me of Hogwarts which made me happy. A sweet little pit stop.
After seeing campus we headed over to Alki Beach to eat dinner. We had some fish & chips and another local brew and enjoyed sitting outside looking at the water. We knew we weren't going to make it until the sun went down so we headed back towards our hotel to call it an early evening.
I still can't believe how much we saw and did today! We are loving being able to spend so much time outdoors comfortably. We are looking forward to tomorrow's adventures!
