Two Weeks

Our big events the last couple weeks have mostly involved doctor appointments, sleeping, and eating, but we have made it to the two week mark with no major hiccups!

Tummy time!

Janie had her two week follow up with her pediatrician today! When we left the hospital, Janie had lost so little weight and her jaundice levels were so low that we didn't have to bring her back to the hospital for a re-check after a couple days. That was great news!

Snuggly.

We went to he doctor late last week because Janie had been spitting up/vomiting a lot, especially at night, and I was starting to get concerned that there may be an issue and she might not be getting enough to eat being that so much was coming up! It was A LOT. Nora just didn't do all of that so it seemed quite abnormal to me.

Thankfully, our doctor said she was gaining weight very quickly (13 oz in a week!!) so that was not the problem. He thought she had been overeating, leading to her spitting up lots of extra milk from nursing. I've been adjusting her feedings since then and think I've got her eating a better amount, though I'm still working it out a little. Due to the adjustments in her nursing, my body has had to go through another adjustment period on top of that. Thankfully, I think we are all starting to figure out what works. Though… we still have some moments of LOTS of spit up. I think I may have to deal with a little more reflux than I did with Nora. And therefore, more laundry.

A few days worth of burp cloths...

Today at the doctor Janie was healthy and happy! She is in the 75th percentile for height, so she may be on the tall side like her sister.

Sweet baby Janie

20 1/2 inches long

We've still been trying to get our nights figured out. Janie is not sleeping as well at night as she is during the day. I know this is normal for newborns, I just want her to get adjusted so badly!! Our doctor said we should go a little longer between feedings since she is eating so much and has already surpassed her birth weight. If I hold her, Janie will go a little longer between feedings, but without being held she will only go 30 min-2 hours before waking up. Hopefully that will get better as she adjusts to night and day. Oh, please get better!! Last night she did go 4 hours on her own so I am hoping that was not a fluke!!

Some other happenings since last week:

We went and had her second PKU test completed as our first official time out of the house when she was a little over a week old. Janie did pretty well considering the nurse pricked her heel and made her bleed. And made mommy hold her down while she filled up her little sample card instead of hold and rock her.

Bundled up for our first outing!

The weather was really nice this past weekend so we went out as a family of four in public! It went pretty well... The baby was fed and the toddler napped and we went to our Town Square outdoor shopping center for about an hour and a half. We really just walked around, got a smoothie, played by the fountain, and ate a cookie, then went back home. The ride home was the most interesting part - Janie cried some and Nora whined a little, but we made it back with no major problems! Phew!

Janie sleeping soundly.

Nora passed out after our outing!

Nora went to her cousin Hunter's with Grandma Peipert last Sunday afternoon and had lots of fun! We were thankful for a little quiet time around the house and that Nora was able to get "ot"(out) of the house for a little while. We have been stuck inside for the most part because Janie is so small and not on routine yet, so I'm sure she was ready for an outing!

Slide!

My sweet girl.

Until next time...
