Spooky Adventures

October in Texas is entirely unpredictable. I bought the girls Halloween shirts weeks ago and haven't been able to put them on them because it has been NINETY degrees outside. And that is not an exaggeration. It has literally been that warm. But we finally got into the Halloween spirit beginning the weekend before Halloween...

I finished the girls' costumes and we had a themed photo shoot with friends, featuring characters from Peter Pan! Nora was Tinkerbell and Janie was a mermaid from the lagoon. I worked waaayy harder than I should have, but they turned out cute enough and I was happy they were happy. Well, Janie could have cared less, but Nora was thrilled to be Tinkerbell. I'm 98% sure she has no actual idea who or what Tinkerbell is, but she wears wings and a fun skirt and that is all that matters.

After we got into the spirit of Halloween, I decided that we needed to have a week of Halloween fun leading up to the big day. So on Monday, we carved out the giant pumpkin we got from the pumpkin patch. Nora did not want to touch the pulp inside until she realized there were seeds and then she wanted to pick up the seeds. But not the pulp. She liked watching the shapes of the pumpkin face fall out and helped pick them up. Janie didn't care a whole lot about the pumpkin. She preferred to look for other dead organic matter in the driveway and on the porch, but she did get to hang out with the family outside for the evening! We put candles in the pumpkin face and lit it up and Nora loved it! We checked on it frequently throughout the week.

She's thinking, "There is NO way I'm touching that."

But, wait... there's seeds!

She got one!

We also made crafts. I showed Nora what a candy corn was and we ripped paper and glued it down to make a paper candy corn, while we ate them of course! Janie and Nora each painted their own paper pumpkins, too!

The pumpkins finished!

We had to have a Halloween movie night and as much as I wanted to watch Hocus Pocus, I figured it wasn't the most age-appropriate Halloween movie for the kids. Instead, we watched Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin and a little of a Curious George Halloween Festival movie we found on Netflix. And had popcorn!

It was a fun week! Nora really enjoyed Halloween this year. Next year will be TWICE as fun because Janie will, too! But for now... bring on the rest of the holidays! So excited...
