Red, White & Blue (Summer Week Four)

In general, our week was a little bit less on-the-go than it usually is. I didn't leave the house with the girls until Wednesday or Thursday!

But, it was Independence Day on Friday so we had plenty to do over the weekend! Justin was home all week (yay!) and also had the holiday off so we enjoyed some extra time together as a family.

Love our family of four...

The city of Southlake (where Justin and I went to high school) does their celebration on the 3rd and I had decided that we were going to try to take the girls to watch the fireworks show even though it was WAAAYYY past both of their bed times. Nora has been a lot better about staying up late (plus, we don't have to get up for anything in the morning) and Janie has always been a little bit easier to carry around than Nora was when she was that little. So, we decided to give it a go for the fireworks show on the 3rd.

I made sure to give Nora some good information on fireworks before going to Town Square. I showed her some pictures on my computer and we talked about how they would make big sounds up in the sky. When Mimi came over after dinner, Nora told her all about the lights in the sky that we were going to see.

When we got there, we had quite a bit to see and do. We listened to the band play patriotic music, talked to some people we knew, got a smoothie, and walked around to see what was there.

Nora took a picture with a marine!
I was actually really proud of her;
she is usually pretty serious about stranger danger...

Nora loves her daddy!

When it got closer to 9:00 we went to stake out a location to watch the fireworks and relax for a little while before they started.

(Okay, this was before)

I am SO glad that we took the girls up to see the show because the night couldn't have been better. Both of them stayed awake until we got home (10:30!) and didn't fuss a bit. They both liked the fireworks show and the weather was awesome! The only parts that freaked Nora out a little bit were the finale and when it first began, because some other kids screamed. We had a great time watching fireworks with the girls for the first time!

On the actual holiday, we went over to a friends' house for food & fun! We had a great time swimming & playing & eating way more than we needed to.

It was an awesome week!!
