Weekend Wrap: OU/TX & Dallas Arboretum

More October fun this weekend!

Nora and I started Saturday morning supporting the Miracle League with some friends from school. We cheered on some friends in the game & played with some friends on the sidelines.

Then, it was time to go home for the annual Red River Rivalry between the University of Texas & Oklahoma University. Of course, we decked out in our longhorn attire to cheer on our team. I thought bringing out some pom poms for the girls would be fun, but they ended up arguing over who got each one so that was short lived. They also argued over who got to wear each bow, so they went bow less. After we went outside to play, they were happy again and all was well in the world. The longhorns also did well and ended up with a WIN! One of the biggest games of the year for both teams, as it is a big rivalry game.

Janie trying to make a "hook 'em" sign with her hands...

Happy sisters!

We made a big pot of chili & some pumpkin dip for the evening & had a very tasty fall meal, even though it is still too hot for boots!! Believe me, I've been trying to get away with them...

We decided to make a trip to the Dallas Arboretum, where they have thousands of pumpkins on display. As an educator, you get in free and they were so gracious to extend the free admission to THREE family members, so we decided to take advantage. Plus, parking was free after 3:00 so it was a fun & entirely free experience for the whole family!

We got there & went in the entrance by the children's area, which just so happened to be the farthest from the pumpkins so we had to take a little walk. On the way, we passed some koi fish! Janie didn't want to leave, but we had lots more to see!

Nora's favorite color!

Janie walking with Grandpa. And her new favorite stuffed animal, "monkey".

And then of course, Nora had to use the potty, which just so happened to be right by where we were, thank goodness. We were not prepared with any sort of map and would have had no idea where the restrooms were. Janie played & danced with her monkey while we waited.

After observing the squirrels for a little while, we started on our way again and found the pumpkin village! The girls checked out the pumpkin houses & the pumpkins inside the houses & the pumpkins outside the houses! Pumpkins, pumpkins, everywhere!

Then I thought I would try to get a picture of the girls posing with the pumpkins. That didn't really turn out the way I would have liked it to. Rather than sitting with the pumpkins, the girls preferred to climb them. And when it was time to stop climbing or get down from the highest hay bale, at least one of them would get upset. So, I pretended to be happy with the pictures I got (which were mostly of the backs or sides of heads)!

They kind of looked at Justin on a different climbing adventure...

...but mostly not really. So we checked out a few more things before leaving the pumpkin village. Surprisingly enough, neither one of the girls asked to take home a pumpkin!

On the walk back through the arboretum towards our gate, we saw a big butterfly, which Nora found very entertaining.

Checking out the butterfly, which is hard to see in the picture!

We stopped to have dinner out on our way back, then it was time to come home & start to think about bed time. A busy Sunday afternoon! No laundry got done, but we had a good time. We wished it had been a slight bit cooler so that we could have enjoyed a bit more time outside, but the girls were happy to see the pumpkins.

Can't wait for more weekend fun with the family!
